Newcastle Hospitals Charity exists to add to and enhance the care and services provided by The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The charity receives incredible support from patients, families, staff and local communities to help raise millions of pounds every year.
As a result of that support, we are able to fund hundreds of ideas and projects every year ranging from under a hundred pounds through to more than a million pounds. This funding is available to every team member at Newcastle Hospitals from technicians to surgeons and porters to specialist nurses.
The charity organises the funding it provides around five themes which are based on what patients and staff have told us are important.
Patient Care:
Ultimately, everything the charity does should improve the experience for patients. This theme focuses both on improved clinical outcomes for patients with respect to their particular medical conditions, and on supporting their wider wellbeing while they receive their treatment.
Supporting Staff:
More than 16,000 people are employed by Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and we are focused on supporting them to be excellent at what they do, while working in an environment that nourishes their wellbeing.
Innovation:
There is a need for effective research to find better ways of diagnosing and treating many medical conditions. Without these advances, the treatment options and prognosis for some patients within our hospitals will remain limited. Work is continually being developed internationally to increase knowledge and to invent and adopt new approaches.
Health Inequalities:
We want to support the Trust to tackle unfair and avoidable differences across the population in relation to health and social outcomes. They arise due to the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age.
Newcastle Hospitals Charity currently have nearly 300 funds containing various levels of funding. It draws from those funds in order to support ideas and projects submitted which need funding. We would love to hear from you about your ideas.
